Causeway Work Centre
RightBike has been developed and is managed as a member of the Causeway Group of Social Businesses. Causeway is a not-for-profit agency that empowers and supports people in overcoming disabilities and other challenges to help them find rewarding work and live more independently. But Causeway’s growing group of innovative social businesses do much more than help disadvantaged people find employment. They also support other organizations, share expertise, address societal goals, and forge partnerships that are contributing to more vibrant economic development in Ottawa. Causeway fuels economic development by creating social businesses and empowering people.
Sustainable Living Ottawa West
Sustainable Living Ottawa West (SLOWest) is a grass roots community organization that aims to find means and ways to live an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling and socially just way of life in Ottawa West. More specifically, SLOWest supports community-level projects such as community gardens, renewable energy, and the RightBike Bike Share project. The organization has been a champion of bike sharing in Ottawa West, advocating tirelessly for a local Bike Share service since RightBike was just an idea.
Business Improvement Areas
The two local BIAs that fall within RightBike’s operating area have been a major source of support for RightBike’s development, and are key partners in promoting the service to local residents and businesses. The involvement of the Wellington West BIA and the Westboro BIA in the RightBike project is an essential aspect of community ownership of this Bike Share service.
Cycle Salvation
Cycle Salvation is a member of the Causeway Group of Social Businesses, a growing network of socially minded, not-for-profit ventures focused on transforming disadvantaged lives through training and employment. In business since 2008, Cycle Salvation operates as a business but is managed on the belief that financial profit should never come at the expense of people’s growth, independence, and wellbeing. Its bottom line includes improving people’s lives. Cycle Salvation is also committed to developing and implementing environmental best-practices and is constantly looking for new and effective ways to protect our planet, such as by providing the technical backbone for RightBike. Cycle Salvation recognizes that being good for our planet is good for its business.
Cyclelogik
Cyclelogik is a cycle and multi sport boutique, as well as a cafe. It is an independent bike retailer located in Hintonburg, at the eastern end of RightBike’s operating area. Cyclelogik is one of the partner hubs for RightBike’s first year of operations. It will be the easternmost location where RightBike users can pick up or drop off a bike.
Mountain Equipment Co-op
Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) is a cooperatively run outdoor gear, clothing, and services business. Its aim is to help people enjoy the benefits of self-propelled wilderness-oriented recreation. Located at the western end of RightBike’s operating area, MEC is one of the partner hubs for RightBike’s first year of operations.
Dovercourt Recreation Centre
Dovercourt is a City of Ottawa recreation facility run by the Dovercourt Recreation Association. They offer programs including fitness, aquatics, dance, pottery, and more for people of all ages. Dovercourt is RightBike’s newest hub, with a soft launch in October 2012 and a full launch for the 2013 season.
The City of Ottawa
The City of Ottawa has been a major player in supporting the growth of a community-owned Bike Share service in Ottawa West. The City of Ottawa supported Causeway’s development of a Feasibility Study and Business Plan for RightBike, sustaining the project through its crucial development period. Through its encouragement of this Bike Share initiative, the City of Ottawa is showing its commitment to making sustainable transportation choices available in Ottawa.
The Ottawa Police Service
The Ottawa Police Service has supported RightBike through a donation of bikes to supplement our fleet.
