RightBike is very excited to announce that the RightBike HQ bike shop is opening for DIY hours starting Monday, May 13!

The shop will be available for do-it-yourself bike maintenance and repair on Mondays and Tuesdays from 10:00a.m. to 5:30p.m. Use of a bike stand and a full set of tools is just $5 per hour!

Please note that these are unsupervised and unassisted hours. The workshop is available for use, but our staff and mechanics will not generally be available for advice or guidance.

RightBike is looking for a Head Mechanic for the 2013 Season.

This part-time position is responsible for the oversight and general management of the workshop at RightBike. Primary responsibilities include fleet management and maintenance, and teaching bike maintenance and repair skills to new mechanics. In addition, ensuring the workshop space is organized, supplied with required tools, parts, and bike specific supplies, as well as adhering to safety requirements is essential. Comfort working alongside our client-mechanics in a supportive environment is essential, and general knowledge of vulnerable populations is required.

Responsibilities:

• Fleet Maintenance and management
• Bicycle Mechanic Instruction
• Bike repair and maintenance
• Tune ups and service to private bikes (if required)
• Client Supervision
• Pulling trailers with tools and riding bikes to off site hubs
• Part and tool orders
• Equipment repair and servicing
• Any and all other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Operations Manager from time to time

Requirements

• Experience with vulnerable population
• Extensive experience with repair and maintenance of bicycles
• Police Check Required
• Comfort working in and providing a supportive employment environment

This is a part-time position, for up to 21 hours/week, the majority of which will fall on weekends. There may also be occasional evening work.

RightBike is very excited to announce that Annual Memberships for the 2013 Season are now available on our website!

We have changed our membership system a little bit for 2013. Instead of just a ‘seasonal’ membership, we are now offering an ‘annual‘ membership. This means you still get 6 full months of riding, and you also get access to activities and events during the off-season.

This year, you can do even more with a RightBike Annual Membership:

• Access our 65 bikes, from any of our 6 hubs, as many times as you want.

• Ride a RightBike for 6 full months, from May 1st to October 31st.

• Use our shop to work on your bike.

• Attend RightBike events, including discount nights at RightBike partner businesses.

• Finally, with an Annual Membership you will also receive 2 Guest Passes, each good for one RightBike Day Pass.

All of this is available right now for just $60!

And, this year we are not requiring a deposit, just a credit card number. So $60 is all you pay to start riding. (Although deposits are an option for those who prefer them).

Annual Memberships are available online right now, and will be on sale at community events and in-store at RightBike HQ this spring.

Today marks the last day of operations for RightBike’s inaugural season. We want to thank all our partners, supporters, sponsors, and, most of all, our members for an amazing first season!

On Saturday, we held an open-house to celebrate the season, complete with pumpkin-carving, face-painting, and adults-on-kids-bikes races! Thanks to all who came out, and if you couldn’t make it, check out the photos below and on our new Facebook page!

We also wanted to share some stats from our first season:

• We signed up 138 members, including people from across Canada, Europe, and even as far away as New Zealand!
• Over 325 trips were taken by our members over the course of the season.
• We provided over 600 hours of supportive employment, thanks to you!

Even though we are wrapping up our season, RightBike won’t be closed all winter. We’ll be holding workshops, community events, bike maintenance drop-in hours, and a winter bike loan program. Keep an eye on the website for details!

Yesterday, the RightBike staff closed up shop for the afternoon, loaded up our trailers with bikes and a rack, and rode down to Dovercourt Recreation Centre to open our newest hub!

The hub at Dovercourt, located at 411 Dovercourt Ave in Westboro, will remain open for a ‘soft launch’ until the end of October, and then will open as a full hub in 2013. To access the bikes, drop by the main service desk just inside the front door.
