Ottawa Bicycle Academy is a new educational institution based out of Right Bike that is dedicated to training in bicycle mechanics for people looking to start a career in the field or just to learn how to maintain their own bikes.

Bicycle Mechanics and Assembly Foundations Course

23 November 2015 – 18 March 2016

Young people interested in starting a career in bike mechanics and sports retail are invited to apply for this free 15-week program taking place Mondays to Thursdays from 9am to 3:30pm at Right Bike in Hintonburg, Ottawa.

Instruction is delivered by a highly experienced certified bicycle mechanic and includes hands on practice, readings, workshops, guest presenters, videos, assignments and regular assessment.

The program concludes with three-week unpaid placements at Ottawa bike shops. Trainees who perform well on their placements are often given the opportunity to transition directly into paid employment.

Eligibility
This program is open to youth (16 to 29 years old) who face barriers to employment, who are out of school and are unemployed or underemployed.

Office Hours (DIY nights)

Learn basic bike mechanics as you work on your own bike with the guidance of our faculty of volunteer instructors. Only $5 an hour for access to the shop, use of tools and coaching and free for Right Bike members. Spare parts and replacement components are also available.
